The Warriors' three returning pitchers from last season ("The Big Three"), Matthias Dietz, Mike Rafferty and Grant Lewis, combined for a seven inning shutout to lead the Warriors to a 3-0 victory over Glen Ellyn in the Oak Lawn tournament. This was the Warriors third win of the tournament--which places the team in the consolation game. The Warriors have now "placed" in two consecutive tournaments and were just one pitch away from entering the championship game in the Oak Lawn tournament.
This win over Glen Ellyn was a total team effort. The Warriors played solid defense throughout the game--which allowed just three runs of offense to hold up for the win.
Mike Rafferty was recognized with the game's MVP for his three innings of middle relief along with his two hits in the game. Mike used a variety of pitches (mixing both speed and location) to keep the Glen Ellyn hitters off balance.
As a part-time player, Ryan Tannebaum played his final game as a 12U Warrior. Ryan made a nice running catch on a ball hit into shallow centerfield in the middle innings of the game. He contributed to this Warriors' team during the season with outstanding defense in centerfield, excellent baserunning and the ability reach base by being selective at the plate.
Coach Rich Tannebaum also coached his last game with this 12U Warriors team. Rich supported the team in a variety of ways. He coached first base for all of our games. He was always positive with our players and encouraged them to have fun and do their best. And, he supported the team financially by being a sponsor.
The Warriors will face Merrionnette Park on Tuesday night in a game for the third place trophy in this ten team tournament.
