The Warriors seem to be experiencing the "dog days of summer". Players have played more games than ever before. And, some of the fundamentals that we covered back in the early season workouts appear to be slipping away lately. We plan to mix things up a little for the last two games in Lockport before returning to Orland Park for the final tournament of the season.
New Lenox beat the Warriors by a score of 8-4 in six innings in the second game of the Lockport tournament. The Warriors are now 0-2 in pool play--and even if the team wins its next two games, it is very unlikely that the Warriors will have a chance to advance into Monday's championship game.
Matthias Dietz absorbed quite a few innings in this tournament before he left for vacation. He will not return until deep into the Orland Park Tournament. Two of the other Warriors' pitchers, Grant Lewis and Mike Rafferty, would greatly benefit from some rest before the team heads into its home tournament. As a result, the Warriors plan to use the next two games to give another pitcher or two an opportunity to gain some valuable tournament experience.
Other Notes:
Ronny Drabeck will replace Matthias Dietz on the roster for the remainder of the New Lenox tournament and most of the Orland Park tournament. Matthias Dietz designated himself as a part-time player back in January due to vacation plans made for mid-July.
The Warriors' home (Orland Park) tournament starts on Tuesday, July 22nd. The Warriors will play Park Forest on Centennial #5 at 5:45 pm to open the tournament.
