Q #9: With a runner on first base, the pitcher balks while delivering a pitch to the plate. The home plate umpire yells "balk", but the batter hits the pitch down the leftfield line for extra bases (a double). What's the call? Is this considered to be a "no pitch" with the balk resulting in the runner on first base being awarded second base? Is the pitch called a ball? Does the double count? You make the call.
A #9: When a balk is called, the ball is delayed dead. In other words, the balk may be enforced or not depending on what happened. If all runners, including the batter, advanced at least one base on the play, the balk is ignored. So, in the above situation, the double stands!
